Random Thoughts…

I look into my son’s eyes and I try to see the future.

The President is working so hard to try and fix things that are seen as all wrong.

The economy, Overseas prisons like Gunatanamo Bay, the Iraq and Afghanistan War, the National Budget, the National Energy crisis, Foreign Relations, Immiagration and more… all are being looked at and hopefully changed for the better. These are all issues that he has inherited, and not just from the last president, but the president before him, and the one before him, and so on.

Of course, that is the nature of any elected position. How many times are officials elected into a clean house, with only the future ahead? Should that thought alone disturb those who dwell on it?

He is trying to change Washington, their mindset. How can he truly do that? The truth is that the best he can do is educate the people and let them draw their own conclusions.

We can all see how well he is succeeding in his objectives. He will have his budget, he will close Guantanamo Bay prison, he will withdraw the troops from Iraq. However, we can all see how the politicians, talk show hosts and others who decide that they should speak up. They evaluate the Presidents actions merely in ways it could benefit him politically, as if they have no interest in actually supporting the people they are supposedly represent. It seems that everyone in the field is more interested in their own opinions, and not what could be best for the many.

Is the President really the same? After all, his Justice deaprtment did write up a defense memo that said that the government could not be prosecuted for crimes unless they voluntarily relinquish the evidence. It seems outrageous that someone would even have that thought much less that they would advance that as a plausible defense.

I feel that I am once again forced to hope that the Presidents ends are noble and achieved, and not worry so much about the reasons behind them.

I also wonder how is opponents feel, what exactly drives them to oppose him? Do they really believe that they are in the right? That war is needed to eliminate terrorism? As if that is truly an achieveable goal? Do they really think that spending freezes and lowering taxes is the solution, even when history show direct evidence that they are incorrect? Do they not have children of their own? Do they not worry for their future?

Are they thinking the same way about me. Right now. and feeling as heavy hearted as I am?

I hope they are, it would at least be something we share, some common ground. It makes no sense to see them as a faceless enemy when I know they are human beings just like me.

What do they fear? Why is that so? Can something be done to bridge the gap? Why can we not see and understand why people think they way they do, even if it would only be to explain to them how their reasoning has gone all wrong. Or to see that reasoning has nothing to do with it, and to find a way to satisfy their emotions (their appetites?) and have everyone be constructive.

You see, we all have to work together to get done what needs to be done. I don’t want to order people to comply or to be thought to be treasonous. Instead I know that if people took the time to understand, they would not want to argue.

Are they thinking the same way about me. Right now. and feeling as heavy hearted as I am?

I believe many worry and feel the politicians cannot protect us from all the fears shoved down our throats. They are but a collective group of people who try to make decisions on a national and worldly level. They can do what they can do and I agree all too often it is not enough.

I think no matter what Obama does or does not do what we can keep is our hope, our courage, our faith…in humanity and one another. We can reach out to those around us. We can get involved. We can make a difference one person at a time. Obama cannot fix everything alone. Let’s roll up our sleeves and go to his side. We must do our parts. =)

Hehe, yes we have to do our parts.

I was just ‘thinking out loud.’ Have you ever wondered why people think or act the way they do when the thoughts or actions themselves are illogical? Playing the devil’s advocate is very difficult, it is very much a modern day jester approach and not for everyone.

I do. I wonder how people cannot see their own contradictions. I can often see the entire circle of a process. I research things before I take a solid stance on them. I listen to the other side(s).

Playing devil’s advocate is easy but not necessarily helpful.

I find playing devil’s advocate very difficult as I cannot just spout talking points I have to understand the reasoning behind them.

I think you can see where that would make it much more difficult.
