Book Review – Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell – Part III

Book Cover I finally found my treasured gift of ‘Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell’ and cracked open the last book. It took me, including interruptions from things like work and my son, about 3 days to read it. It was over way too soon.

I loved this last part! It was chock full of intrigue, madness, magical spells, enchantments, charms and prophecies both fulfilled and not yet fulfilled. A lot of what happened was to be expected, but there was enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. As everything started coming together there was casualties, not all the casualties would result in death and those that did received a gruesomely fitting one. Overall it was a very satisfying read that I would recommend to anyone who likes Fantasy novels. Appreciation of dry wit and the setting of Victorian England are a significant plus.

Susanna Clarke is a wonderful author has written a wonderful book. It’s original form is as a single large novel, however when a good friend bought it for me I got it as a trilogy in a spiffy cardboard bookcase. Pick up either one and start reading!
