Book Review - The Read Aloud Handbook

Julie reading to children in Families for Literacy

I recently finished reading ‘The Read Aloud Handbook‘ by Jim Trelease. I am extremely happy that I picked up this book. This book was not only an excellent read, but it was also very informative. The book is essentially divided in two, where the first half presents mounds and mounds of evidence in support of reading to your children from when they are born to when they finally move out and go to college. The second half of the book is a resource list for anyone who needs ideas of what books to get your child.

I really enjoyed reading this book, there are a lot of little tips and facts that I didn’t know that have helped me out with Alpha Cub a whole lot. The second half of the book is proving useful even to this day, and I am sure the book list will be useful for years to come.
I fully recommend this book to current and future parents.

Great advice! I forgot how often my pop used to read to me when I was a kid and how much I appreciate his reading influenced my overactive imagination to this day.Love the layout of your blog, you've done a bunch of work on it. Had time to check on my pc versus my iphone in Google reader for once.

Thanks! I have not only taken your advice on both Zemanta and Disqus, but I have been experimenting with them. It seems that a lot of Zemanta is blocked by my work firewall, which is a major shame. I had no idea how bad it was until my last post when I edited it at home and lots of neat features popped up, specifically the reblog button! There is still a lot of work in content and layout that I need to do, specifically I need to put some advertisers on my site so the few visitors that want to buy a book that I review can do it online, getting it quickly and maybe even helping me out as well!I also need to upload a whole lot more pages of my son, the Gallery looks a little tiny,

A simple advertising option is to setup an Amazon affiliate account and just link the book in your review. Completely non-invasive and doesn't add any extra cost to your readers- a win win.If you want a personalized plugin, check in to Victus Media from time to time. We have one available now with upgrades coming soon, as well as social search and monitoring tools.

I created the link in the above review using Zemanta – I have no idea how to test it except to earn money from someone actually bying a book through the link. I think I set it up right and it does go to the proper Amazon page.I also want to use Barnes & Noble website adverts. Maybe even make some blatant adverts that look somewhat tasteful as an additional attraction. One Idea I had was setting up a booklist of books I want to read and having visitors able to vote somehow on what book I read and review next. Visitors can also purchase the book from the advert if they wish. I want to make that look good, I have a few ideas but nothing concrete. I am looking forward to downloading and installing the Victus Media plugin. I would love to see how it works with wordpress and how it can help me with blogging and writing reviews.

Great, check out http://victus1.victusmedia.com and see if you can follow the installation instructions there (you basically insert a snippet of code into a widget text box). Of course any and all feedback appreciated.

You can also authorize your Twitter account to talk to victusmedia and it'll begin trying to make sense of your social chat on twitter (there's an rss option for your blog feed, I use feedburner, and facebook oauth is coming soon). We're adding Twitter list trends.

You can also see examples at pages like http://victus1.victusmedia.com/users/twitteruse...

if a username is setup with out system it automatically sends updates which are processed by a semantic tool. There' also a way to up vote or down vote tags or simple delete them (clicking on them nukes them now but we may adjust that to activate a search).
