I have been looking around the interwebs for different articles about personal improvement.

While I have read a ton of specific advise, and all of it made a lot of sense, There is one piece of general advice I have not been following. I have been using the excuse that I have too much work to take care of myself. I have used my job, studying and my son as an excuse to let things go. Yet, I will take 1-2 hours a day and watch Television and waste time in other ways.

I really have to make a solid priority list and keep with it.

I also have to understand that it’s ok to be a little selfish, as long as others do not suffer. I should not ignore my son, so I need to find time to exercise or read when he is napping or sleeping. There is plenty of time to do the things that are needed, if I just trim my activities a little bit and make the needed things a priority and stick with it.

Specifically, I intend to stop watching TV. Or at least to stop most of it, I love watching the occasional DWTS show with my wife and I want to make time with my wife a priority also! I will take the time to schedule walking/working out and read more. I think I will be the better for it. I will let my reader(s?) know.

It’s hard to do an update, as there really isn’t a leave off point. So I will just start talking about how he is doing now.

He is walking fine now, oh he stumbles here and there but he can walk just fine normally, he gets a good speed when he wants to and loves walking decent distances. Nothing too long yet, but the summer hasn’t even started yet so I am looking forward to when we start walking around the block.

He is still a very skinny child, and he is still allergic to animal milk. However, we have found that he loves both meat and cheese ravioli. Yes, apparently the cheese making process somehow removes whatever it is in the milk that causes a reaction. We also discovered he is allergic to pediasure, so we are sticking with the Soy Milk with Omega-3 added. He also LOVES his aunt’s meat sauce on pasta. We tried to feed him the Gerber Graduates Meals, but he didn’t like them and the last one made him sick! I don’t like a puking Cub so those Graduates are in the donation bin! He eats a lot of homemade food now, and Gerber pureed fruit and grain cereals (oatmeal, rice and barley). When he gets a little bigger we will switch him over to adult fruit permanently. He used to eat blackberries and strawberries, but he stopped doing that. I hope we get him into the habit again.

As far as talking goes, he seems to pick up a new word every day while keeping the old ones! When he does something bad, like throwing something or biting or hitting … not that he is a bad boy, he just has spirit in him … after being punished he says that he is sorry, which of course brings hugs and acceptance.

I am soooooo looking forward to when he is fully potty trained!

It’s been quite a while since I wrote anything about my son, so I will do a quick recap.

He was puking once or twice a day and getting very congested when he was consuming formula. He could not drink more than 6oz of formula at one sitting. He often would not eat without being tricked/entertained and even then would only eat about 4-6 oz of baby food. He still had a decent amount of energy, but his eczema would act up a lot!

We tried to put him on Organic Whole Milk, but he broke out in hives when he drank it.

We tried lactaid, but once again he broke out.

We tried Goat’s Milk, he broke out enough we were worried and brought him to the ER. Nothing was seriously wrong but we didn’t want to risk it.

We tried Rice Milk, which he loves. However, he is too young to drink it regularly as it only has 1 gram of fat per serving which would delay his brain/neurological growth.

Finally we tried Enhanced Soy Milk ,with Omega 3-DHA added. He loves the milk, and he can easily drink 8oz at a sitting. In fact, he cries loudly if he gets less! He has an improved appetite, where he will easily eat 8 oz of baby food at a sitting and still want more sometimes. Usually he gets puffs. We have been giving him more and more adult food. He does well generally, but still has the occasional issue with it.

Lots of people gave us dire warnings about giving our son Soy Milk, from it’s genetically modified – we use Silk Soy Milk which is Organic, therefore not genetically modified and herbicide free – to LMB will not develop as fast as other babies who drink formula/whole milk – the enhanced Soy Milk has 5 grams of fat per serving, as much as our formula and only slightly less than whole milk which weighs in at 7 grams. When you consider that LMB doesn’t break out and drinks more soy milk at a sitting than he would with the formula, it seems that at least for him Soy is the perfect choice.

He also can now walk a few steps, from mommy to daddy. His balance still needs some work but he is progressing. With some luck he will take a few steps on his own as a Christmas present from him to us.
